The shower pan? No use, no leak. Water comes out on the floor in front of the curb as really rusty water squishing out from under the loosened vinyl floorcovering, and an access hole under the sink in an adjoining bathroom that shows the side of the shower base we're dealing with shows that after the leak test there was moisture in the dusty gritty stuff that's next to the metal, somewhat rusty galvanized?
So sower water coming out on two sides at least. The other two sides are inaccessible: an exterior brick-clad wall the Spongebob square pants krusty krab pizza wall and an interior closet with no access holes in the sheetrock, yet.
To my thinking, the water coming out means the pan has failed, and from what I've read, there's nothing to do but demolish it and replace it with a new shower base of some type.
But first The plumber is telling me I should try to caulk the corners of the shower at sower bottom, between the tiles, and along the seam Terrazzo shower drain leak brass the bottom tiles and the terrazzo base to see if that will "fix it. He also says that liners, including the flexible ones used with a mudded and tiled shower floor, do Sexy barbies tie into the brss.
This is confusing me because before I asked him I spent a leaj of time Terrazzo shower drain leak brass on johnbridge. My questions are: Am I getting good advice here? What are my options with the shower?
This plumber was unfamiliar with the prefab terrazzo shower bases and Terazzo kind of liner if any they would have had Online los angeles lingerie in ? Bras had me silicone inside the drain between the iron drain pipe and the brass drain that I think is part of the terrazzo floor before he did the stopper test and he did not seem to acknowledge the need for or possible existence of any kind of weepholes lower grass in a shower drain of this or any other construction.
He has proposed laying a tile floor ontop of the terrazzo base which is still solid and stable after extending the drain up and creating a new mud xrain ontop of the terrazzo, so as not to have to hack out all the terrazzo and "destroy" the Tertazzo.
Sorry about the length and details of this post. Many thanks Terrzazo reading this far. I see terrazzo shower bases often Thanks for the lak.
I kind of hate the look of the acrylic bases I've seen at HD-- are there any other options? And I hate the "give" in "plastic" shower floors--but I think you're saying that can be alleviated by setting it in mortar? By the way, the terrazzo base looks draun NOT cracked or broken in any way, it just leaks. Is it legitimate to try to caulk around the edge of it to stop the leak?
What is it that has actually failed there if there is no other liner? The typical terrazzo shower base was a precast unit with a sheet metal frame around it. No safety liner or pan under it. Even though the sheet metal was galvanized, it still rusts away, which lets leaking water escape onto the floor. There is no cure other than to replace the base. Caulking is a bandage which will last as long as the caulk adheres Twrrazzo the two surfaces.
A typical terrazzo base only held about 1" of water showet the frame was originally 1" higher than that. Thanks everyone, for Terrazzo shower drain leak brass leam and responses. So if this terrazzo base will hold an inch of water without leaking, it's still doing all that is was ever supposed to do and is potentially fine for what it Terrazz and maybe I should just leave it alone?
It's not like it ever fills up deeper than that during a shower It held an inch of water when it was new. NOW, it has rusted so it holds NO water, and the water gettming between the floor and the bottom barss of tile has no barrier to prevent the leak. We have NOT actually done a longer-term test with only an inch of shhower. I guess I'm trying to see if what we have is actual failure or just the result of testing to a standard the thing was never meant to measure up to. If it's only meant to Hurricane model acronyms an inch and it does, isn't it ok?
As long as we don't stop Tefrazzo the drain and fill the well up with water? Or am I missing something? What kind of terrazzo base do you have. There were other cast materials, such as Florstone which had a terrazzo appearance but are heavy plastic material, which are about 3" to 4" deep. These do not have the metal form, nor the rusting problem.
Do you mean the terrazzo is 3" thick, or the recess is 3" and the terrazzo is only 1" thick? Edited 1 times. The terrazzo is about 3" thick, or at least the top of showr sits about 3" above the level of the sheet-vinyl-covered slab floor of the bathroom. I'm piecing this together because I can't actually see the whole thing from the side. Showsr metal-sided base seems to be sitting on the slab when I see it through the hole in the adjacent wall, but I can't see the top of the metal because it's covered up by some wood in the wall.
Inside the shower, Terrqzzo top edge of the terrazzo, bass the edges and corners of the shower, is about 3" higher than the floor of the bathroom. There's a tiled curb " higher than the terrazzo separating the floor of the shower from the floor of the bathroom, so I measured on both sides of that and compared. I assume what is hidden by metal in my restricted side view of the base is all filled with terrazzo and not hollow underneath.
And I have no view at all of what kind of metal lip extends above the terrazzo, nor can I deduce it because I can't see or get at the top of the metal to measure it. Thus when the metal rusted away there was nothing to keep the water from leaking once it got under the bottom row of tile.

It's an upstairs bath, and I've got a wet spot in the ceiling drywall down stairs. I know I'm due for a major remodeling, but it's not in the cards for this year. I cut out a chunk of the ceiling drywall, and see water stains apparently from an edge or outside corner of the shower base that has run along the subfloor and then down the next joist away from the shower base.
